Biżuteria epoki wiktoriańskiej była szczególna ze względu na sentymentalne i symboliczne konotacje. Powstały wówczas ozdobne wielofunkcyjne zawieszki na różne przybory zwane sztalenkami. Najbardziej charakterystyczna dla tego okresu była biżuteria żałobna z emblematami Memento Mori i z symbolami przemijania, wiary i śmierci (kotwice, anioły, krzyże). Wszystkie tego typu wyroby były w czarnym kolorze i najczęściej zawierały włosy ukochanej zmarłej osoby. Obecnie w biżuterii współczesnej można dostrzec wyraźny nurt neowikrotiański. Tę przedziwną i romantyczną epokę dopełniały dramatyczne losy pisarki Virginii Woolf.
The Victorian Era Jewelry was typical because of the sentimental and symbolic significance. For example there was the multifunctional decorative pendants in various implements called chatelaines. Especially characteristic of this period was the Memento Mori emblem of mourning jewelry and the symbols of transience, faith and death (anchors, angels, crosses). All such products were in black and usually contain hair beloved deceased. The neo-Victorian trend can be clearly seen in the contemporary jewellery nowadays. This wonderful and romantic era was fullfilled by the dramatic fate of the writer Virginia Woolf.
